Last Day of Term (Friday 12 April)

Early Dismissal: – 2.10pm!

Dress up theme:
The dress up themes are different for each sub school:

  • Junior School: House Colours
  • Middle School: Favourite Sport (Team / club or player)
  • Senior School: Mix & Match (Pattern on Pattern)

Week 11 House Awareness:
For the Galileo House Awareness week this term, the Galileo House Captains have decided to focus on and raise awareness about “United We Made It”. United We Made It is an organisation working with a team of capable adults, living with a disability. The group promotes a happy and supportive environment for individuals to work together and grow together. The group creates one-off pieces of artwork such as macrame, weaving, sewing and much more, and then sells them in their workshop for others to enjoy.

As a college, we are going to support this organisation by presenting them with the funds that we raise from the gold coin donation on dress up day, as well as any other recyclable and refurnishable materials you may want to donate.

RECLAIM THE VOID PROJECT

Navigator College are looking for pure cotton sheets, table cloths or doona covers in the following colours: Blue, yellow grey, (all shades) white and black,. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any poly/cotton material as per the project guidelines. Please drop any materials to the front office. Thank you so much for your help.

“The vision is to cover a mining pit with a large-scale ‘dot’ artwork made up of thousands of handmade circular rag-rugs woven from discarded fabric. Woven by people from all walks of life and backgrounds, the rugs will be joined together into a giant textile artwork which shows an overall pattern that carries the story of the Tjukurrpa of the country on which the pit is situated.” https://www.reclaimthevoid.com.au

Indonesian Teacher/Student Billeting Opportunity!

Dear Navigator College Community,

Many of you would know that we have a partnership with a school in Indonesia – SMA SWASTA GKPS 1. Pamatang Raya.

As part of our partnership with the school, we invite 3 people (1 staff and 2 students) to spend time with us here in Australia, in order to take their experience back to their school.  Our guests’ names are:

Students:             VICHO AMMI PURBA (male) & YUDHA REINHARD NATANAEL GIRSANG (male)

They will arrive in Port Lincoln on Tuesday 19th March and return to Adelaide on Wednesday 10th April.

One way that we are able to support this visit is by billeting our guests with families from the Navigator College community.  We are looking for staff, families or other supporters of the College to assist by offering their homes for a part of their stay.  It is possible to host our guests for just a weekend only, during the week only, or a combination of these.

Weekday requirements (generally Monday school pickup – Friday school drop off):

  • 2 bedrooms (one for the female staff, and a shared room for the two male students)
  • Breakfast and dinner (lunch provided at school)
  • Transport to and from school.

Weekend requirements (generally Friday school pickup – Monday school drop off):

  • 2 bedrooms (one for the female staff, and a shared room for the two male students)
  • Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
  • Attend (or drop off/pick up) at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Sunday morning (unless other activities are planned)
  • Local activities (e.g. camping, fishing, etc.), sight-seeing etc.

Further support and information, including cultural considerations, will be provided as needed.

If your family would like to help support our partnership in this way, please contact me at jfewster@navigator.sa.edu.au with preferred dates and possible/proposed itinerary.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Blessings,

Library team extend a warm welcome back!

The Library team would like to welcome you back for a new year.

I’m Jo (Ms Schenkel) the Teacher Librarian and work Monday to Thursday. Brooke (Mrs Green), the Library Technician, works Tuesday to Friday.

We look forward to seeing all students as they come to the library to borrow for the new term. Some students may still have resources that weren’t returned last year. If you have received an overdue note for these items, please support your child in finding and returning overdue items as soon as possible or request an account so that you can pay for lost or damaged resources. Children won’t be able to do any personal borrowing until this has been resolved.

Does your child love to read? The Premier’s Reading Challenge has now begun for the year, with reading concluding on September 6th. Record sheets are available online for you to print. Alternatively, Junior School Classroom Teachers will have them for students to access in their classrooms. If you wish to find out more about the Challenge, check out the following link: https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/the-challenge/

We’d love to see you in the library soon.

Community Announcement

School camps are an amazing opportunity for your students.

But they can be stressful for some parents to afford.

I would appreciate you passing this information on to families who will have children attending camps in 2024.

Saver Plus will assist with their saving & budgeting for the camp.

Saver Plus encourages parents to save $50 a month (for 10 months). Their savings is then matched – a free $500 for education costs, making $1,000 available for the school camp.

Families that start saving in September, will have their savings ready to pay their school camp fees in July 2024.

Saver Plus will chat with your families about eligibility:

  • Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  • Payment from Centrelink and
  • Earning an income (employment, carer’s payment, or child support).

Saver Plus helps your families with budgeting for the cost to attend next year’s school camp.

Please share with your families via email, school newsletter, or social media post.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Rebecca MacTavish and Cim Rodgers
