VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Do you own, run or manage a business in one of the following industries here on the EP? Fishing, Oyster, Mussel, Prawn, Broad Acre Farming (livestock, crops or mixed)
Our Year 9 Economics and Business classes are looking for businesses who would be happy to be part of a project that we are currently working on to discover the importance of certain industries on regional communities. We plan to have our small groups of Year 9’s work closely with a representative from a business within one of these industries to unpack a little more about what they do to keep their business successful and thriving in the short and long term. The outcome of this connection will be a short promotional video that our students will create for your business which celebrates and acknowledges your importance to our regional community.
Your commitment would simply require your participation in two meetings with your project group (can be in person or via zoom) next term. You will then be invited to our industry showcase event later in Term 4.

Magellan House Awareness – Week 10
We are pleased to announce that our Magellan House Captains have selected ‘The Black Dog Institute’ as the charity they will support in Week 10.
This non-for-profit organisation is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
Next Friday, 27th September, will feature a dress-up day with the theme of favourite sports teams. Additionally, we’ll host a handball tournament throughout the week to encourage mental wellness through actvity, along with a ‘Big Freeze’ event on Friday to support Fight MND as well.
To contribute, we welcome gold-coin donations.
A reminder that dismissal will be at 2:10pm on Friday 27th September.

The 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge reading concludes on Friday September 6th. All completed forms are due in the library by Monday September 9th. Data entry concludes on September 20th and no forms submitted after this date can be included.
Most JS students have been working toward their next award in their classrooms and a few MS students are doing it independently.

How to complete the Challenge?
To complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge, students need to read 12 books between week 1, term 1 and week 7 term 3.
Every student will need a Student Reading Record. This is available from the school’s Premier’s Reading Challenge coordinator or can be downloaded here.
Read 12 books. Eligible books include e-books, audio books, class/shared reading, prescribed books for school, non-fiction books, books read as research for assignments or books in another language.
Reception to year 6: Students must read 8 books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist and 4 personal choice books.
Year 7 to year 9: Students must read 4 books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist and 8 personal choice books.
Year 10 to year 12: Students must read 12 personal choice books.
Complete the Student Reading Record with the title and author for each book. A parent, caregiver, teacher or librarian must sign off on each book to verify it has been read.
Pass on the completed Student Reading Record to the school’s Premier’s Reading Challenge coordinator by the designated due date.
Receive an award in late November.
Our whole College Book Week dress up day celebration will be held on Wednesday 21st August.
Which character will you choose to dress as?
It may be a character from your favourite book, one of the titles on the shortlist, or to suit the national theme, Reading is Magic.

A very important week begins with National Sorry Day on Sunday 26th May, 2024, and the beginning of National Reconciliation week next Monday 27th May, 2024.
This week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving Reconciliation in Australia.
You are invited to attend our Chapel next Friday 31st May, 2024, followed by a Morning Tea to celebrate the importance of Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. Chapel will begin at 8:50am in Mangiri. Morning Tea will commence from 9:10am in the Mangiri classroom, where we invite you and your child/children to enjoy some native scones and jams with us.
